Join us for a Seder Meal/Last Supper, followed by an optional Maundy Thursday service for those who wish to continue in reflection.
Rabbi Robert Haas of Congregation Mickve Israel will lead an abbreviated Seder on Thursday, April 17th—Maundy Thursday. Maundy Thursday is a day that commemorates Jesus Christ’s Last Supper with his disciples which was also a Passover Seder. This is an interactive educational program that will provide additional context of the Last Supper. The meal will be provided by a Kosher caterer and consists of symbolic elements that will be explained by Rabbi Haas.
A Shared Journey
The Seder is a sacred Jewish meal, filled with rituals and symbolic foods, that recounts the story of the Exodus—the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. This event celebrates God’s faithfulness and the covenant made with His people. On Maundy Thursday, Christians come together to remember the Last Supper of Jesus with His disciples, which was itself a Passover Seder. In this way, the Last Supper connects the Jewish tradition of liberation with the Christian understanding of salvation through Jesus Christ.
Gathering for this abbreviated Seder will join both Jewish and Christian faiths together in a sacred space that honors both our shared roots and distinct faiths. While the Seder recounts the physical liberation of the Israelites, Christians also reflect on how Jesus, through His sacrifice, brought spiritual freedom for all people. Both traditions emphasize themes of deliverance, covenant, and the hope of redemption.
