Fellowship

From weekly Bible studies to seasonal Ballpark excursions, SCC offers traditional and spontaneous opportunities that build and deepen relationships among our church family. Whether attending outdoor Easter Sunrise and fall Sunset services , donning a tartan in honor of our Scottish heritage on Kirkin’ Sunday or becoming a Stephen Minister, providing comfort and support for those experiencing life’s difficult challenges, members engage in playful and enriching activities that are meaningful to each and fit comfortably into their lives.

Anniversary Luncheon celebrating SCC’s 1977 founding as Skidaway Island’s
first faith community.

Preschool

Formal and informal learning opportunities populate Skidway Community Church’s year-round calendar. In addition to regular preschool, youth and adult studies, additional Lenten and fall outreach programming gathers our Island community together.

About Our Preschool

The curriculum at Skidaway Community Preschool was developed using learning goals and objectives based upon the Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards (GELDS) for children ages 1-5. Our curriculum was designed to foster the growth of the whole child, not just intellectually, but socially, emotionally, and physically. Character education is a daily part of our curriculum, and our students understand what it means to be part of a community. Our lessons and activities are theme based and are planned around the developmental domains to include physical, social/emotional, language and literacy, and cognitive skills. We combine our learning experiences with unstructured play, which allows for the balance most appropriate for our youngest learners.

Each day, your children will participate in both self-initiated and teacher-directed enrichment activities, ensuring concept absorption while accommodating children’s varied learning styles. Daily lessons and activities include art, music and movement, reading, science/sensory exploration. Our children are safe to explore and experiment, finding their passions at a young age. Our preschool curriculum incorporates the development of fundamental skills including math and literacy readiness, following directions, visual memory, dramatic play, problem solving, and self help skills. We believe that all learning can and should be fun for young children, and all of our learning experiences are designed with this in mind. Our curriculum engages our youngest learners and fosters a lifelong love of learning.

Our Pre-K curriculum is enhanced with the use of Handwriting Without Tears materials for fine motor and literacy development to ensure our students are well prepared for elementary school.

You are welcome to come by and visit our preschool.
