Each year, Skidaway Community Church proudly celebrates its Scottish Presbyterian heritage with the Kirkin’ O’ The Tartans service. This colorful and joyful event will take place on Sunday, October 26th, at 10:00 AM at 50 Diamond Causeway in Savannah. Ample and accessible parking is available.
Event Highlights:
- The stirring sound of bagpipes will lead a grand procession of family tartans, proudly carried by SCC members and friends.
- Vibrant tartan banners will be displayed throughout the sanctuary.
- Traditional Scottish prayers and uplifting music will fill the air, celebrating a rich and cherished heritage.
Historical Significance:
- First held in 1941 to rally support for Scottish churches during WWII.
- Rooted in a 1745 tradition, when clans secretly wore tartans after the government outlawed them.
- By the late 18th century, tartans became symbols of clan pride and Scottish patriotism.
Pastor Jon Hauerwas warmly invites everyone to be a “Scot for a day,” saying, “This service delights all ages with its pageantry and beauty. If you have Scottish roots, wear your tartan with pride!”
Don’t miss this special celebration, followed by a reception with a touch of Scottish flavor.
