Dear Friends,

When it comes to feeling satisfied with our lives, we all have slightly different measures. Even so, it is no coincidence that pastors often report very high levels of job satisfaction. I once read an article stating that we are second only to physical therapists. That makes sense too. Both professions are highly relational. Both seek to make a difference in the lives of others. And for both physical therapists and ministers, there is a sense of continued personal growth in the practice of that vocation.

What I gather from this research is that when we and others experience a benefit in the working relationship, that win-win feeling leads to great satisfaction. It also helps to explain why some work and personal endeavors are far less rewarding. While all paid professionals (and volunteer leaders) are engaged in some tasks that are less rewarding than others, the overall satisfaction with the work is tied to that win-win feeling.

As you discern how God is calling you to service, I ask you to consider how your gifts are best aligning with the world’s needs. I imagine that such honesty may well open the door to true fulfillment.

Peace and best wishes,

Jon
