Dear Friends,
This week, I give thanks for SCC’s Vacation Bible School, ably led by Joe Crotty, the Discipleship Committee, and our committed volunteers. It has been a number of years since our congregation last hosted a VBS, and the feedback that we’ve received has been overwhelmingly positive. As one of the campers shared with us, “This is the most fun camp I’ve ever been to in my life.”
This is not to say, of course, that SCC’s camp is all playtime, absent of the real substance of our faith. No. I’ve seen the lessons and heard the children’s thoughtful responses. They are clearly learning and retaining a great deal of information about the Bible and the story of Jesus. That they are having fun, and making friends while doing it, is exactly what we had hoped for.
This year is foundational. We are investing the time, energy, enthusiasm, and financial resources necessary to welcome disciples of all ages. Our task is great, but our resolve is strong. Guided by a vision for the future of the church, we step forth boldly in faith.
Please pray with me: Dear God, we thank you for the children who are part of our faith community. We ask that you help us to be an intergenerational community of faith, welcoming disciples of all ages, and nurturing them in their love for you. Help each of us to ask how we can be a part of preparing the way for children building your future church. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.
Peace,
Jon
