BLOG | Grow with us in faith and love.

Dear Friends,

It’s tempting for us to believe that profound messages come in larger packages. For example, if a fifteen-minute sermon is profound, then surely a twenty-minute sermon will be even better, right? Yet Jesus’ sermons were often very brief. He knew how to get the point across through short lessons, often relayed in the form of parables.

In the present North American context, where attention spans are brief and time is viewed as a commodity, communicating succinctly is essential if we wish for our message to be heard. Today, I wish to share with you several short lessons in faith.

  • Character is how you treat those who can do nothing for you.
  • No man is rich enough to buy back his past.
  • Failing is not falling down; it’s staying down.
  • It’s risky to go out on a limb, but that’s where the fruit is.
  • The heaviest thing you can carry is a grudge.
  • Those who follow the crowd are quickly lost in it.
  • Practice makes perfect. Be careful what you practice.
  • The winds of grace are always blowing, but you have to raise the sail.
  • Don’t gripe about your church. If it were perfect, you couldn’t be in it.
  • When you are in deep water, trust the one who walked on it.
  • You can give without loving, but you cannot love without giving.
  • Everyone needs to be loved, especially when they don’t deserve it.
  • Count your blessings, not your problems.
  • Time and talents spent serving God are never wasted.
  • In trying times, don’t quit trying.

May God’s blessing be with you this day as you seek to live into the calling placed upon our lives,

Jon
